Tolarno Eating House
Restaurant branding for Tolarno Eating house and bar, home to artist Mirka Mora’s famous whimsical wall murals. Tolarno is an iconic restaurant in St Kilda Melbourne, first owned by Mirka Mora and her husband in the 60’s. The new proprietors have breathed life into the once-closed venue, creating a popular local destination like in its heyday. The identity and typographic style is a nod to the building’s art deco heritage, with the logotype evoking the energy and movement of Mirka’s paintings. The lively ‘O’ creates a recognisable small scale icon for social media. The graphic device frames each application and is taken even further with arrows added for directional signage inside the building. The brand palette references the beautiful tones of the murals, with a hero blue chosen as a distinctive pop of colour along Fitzroy Street. Mirka Mora quotes appear on the back of menus and on instagram tiles, capturing the artistic history and spirit of the space.
